3 days went by with no word from Ari. This was very unusual. Adam was pissed, although he was doing a very good job of not showing it. "Hey, Let's invite that girl you met over at Ari's the other night. What was her name? Kate?" Adam asked, opening another bottle of beer. I nodded. "Yeah, maybe she has some friends she can bring over." Adam laughed. "For seriously!"
So, I called Kate and she agreed to bring some friends and come over while Adam ran around the house, picking up bottles and other trash.
"Hey Chris!" Kate greeted about an hour later. I showed her inside. "I was afraid that you couldnt make it." I exclaimed. she laughed. "Are you kidding me? It was so boring at my house! And...I brought drinks!" She held up a bottle of vodka and a big bottle of rum. Holy crap. I had to remember to keep that away from Adam.
Turns out, it’s a lot harder to stop someone from drinking when you are pretty drunk yourself. We all were pretty far gone, and things were actually turning out really good. We kind of paired off, and I think Adam was making some pretty good progress with Kate’s friend, Leslie. I saw them head to Adam’s room out of the corner of my eye and smirked a little bit. “I’m glad they are getting along so well.” Kate said, smiling herself. “Yeah, my boy really needed a little pick me up.” I agreed. “Yeah. He’s not the only one.” She told me, and I figured that was as good a time as any to try and make a move. And it worked! And just when we were both starting to get into it, I heard my front door open. “Um, gross.” I heard Ari comment, and continue walking towards the kitchen. “Ari! What the hell!” I yelled, frustrated at her bad timing, and the fact that she’s been MIA for almost a week now. “What? We’re hungry.” She replied, like I was the one that should be in trouble right now. Wait… “We’re?” I asked, taking a better look around to see Spencer not too far behind her. “No. I don’t think so. Leave, now.” I demanded, shooting a nervous glance at Adam’s room. Ari just rolled her eyes at me and continued sifting through my fridge. “Where the hell have you been anyway?” I asked, as an afterthought. “New York.” “WHAT?! With… him? How? You didn’t even tell me!? .. Did you get me anything?” I could barely process all my thoughts. I was pissed at her, that’s for sure. “Yes, with Spencer. He invited me. I didn’t realized I needed your permission given the fact that I’m an adult. And nope, you get nothing.” Spencer moved over towards her now. It almost looked like he was being protective. I wasn’t really sure why, since I wasn’t snapping at her. Not yet. I’d yell at her for it later. It wasn’t until I saw Adam that I realized why Spencer was looking so defensive.
